Have you ever heard your mom said, "If you meet anyone on the way to school, and he try to talk to you, run away and don't look back!" or " If somebody you don't know try to talk to you, walk quickly and try to look busy!"
Then you asked you mom back, "Why is that, ma?"
Then she replied, " Because we don't talk to STRANGERS.."
Hahaha...it sounds funny! What? It is not?
It does sound funny! Especially when our mothers do the faces and hoping that we will be scared and cry! Oww...you know, the faces when they tell us about ghost stories or boogieman!
Hahaha...it is funny, right?
However, in school we were told about these stories...
Story 1
Ali was riding a bicycle to school that morning. He was late. He rode his bicycle as fast as he can. However, he saw an old man trying to cross the road. Unfortunately, when the old man was crossing the road, he was knocked by a motorcycle. He asked for help, but no one gave him a hand. Ali then felt pity for the old man, and helped the old man. Ali then called an ambulance.
Ali arrived at school at 9.00 o'clock. When he entered the classroom, he received a big applause. He was confused. Then, his teacher explained to him that she saw everything of what Ali did.
Story 2
Siti walked to the nearest supermarket to buy some groceries. Her mother gave her RM10 for the groceries. While she was walking, she saw a man with a baby. The man face looked unhappy and the baby was crying. The man asked Siti which bus that he have to take to go to the city. Siti answered politely. However, the man's face looked even more sad. Siti asked him why, and the man said that he don't have enough money to pay the fare. Siti then gave him RM 5, so that he could take the bus. When Siti arrived home, Siti thought that her mother would be angry because there was no balance. Fortunately, her mother said, "I'm proud of you..." after Siti told her the whole story.
So...how?!
Our mom said, do not talk to strangers...our teachers said, be good to other people.
We were thought to be a good man. A man that can offer help to anybody. A man that the world need most. We were thought to do good deed. We were thought to be kind and polite to others, to elderly, to whoever needs our help and attention.
Sadly, not all of us care about somebody else. They are selfish! What they think are themselves!
For story one, the old man may leave to Ali to pay his bills regardless that he is a school boy and for story two, the man may be a kidnapper, and may kidnap Siti as well!
People like these, are subjected to be avoided!
But, how can we recognize these bad people a.k.a boogieman?
That's why! We don't know them...we don't know that they may harm us! We don't have any clue that they may bring the dark clouds into our lives!
So, what can we do, if any of the situations occur, do have your friends with you. DO NOT BE ALONE. If you are alone at first, call them to be with you. If you don't have any cellphone, call an ambulance (in cases of accidents) or police (in cases of suspicion and lost) or do have other adults to be with you to assist the matter.
Do not show that you are scared, neither that you don't.
If you ARE scared, they may be regain confident to harm you. (Eventhough that they didn't have any intention at first).
But, if you ARE NOT scared, they may get scared and unintentionally harm you.
Act NORMAL. As if nothing happen.
For an example, in story 2, if that happen to you. If you DO want to give the man some money, go a few steps further than him, and see if you have enough money to give to him. DO NOT show them your purse, your money, your phones, etc. They may grab it and run away. After you give him the money, walk away and do not turn back.
If you DO NOT want to give him any, just walk as far as you can from him. Do not try to look at him. Just act that you do not realize there is somebody across the road.
For story 1, yes. You should have help him, BUT, after you assist him to the side of the road, call an ambulance directly or stop a car to send him to the hospital. That way is much better, because you let the adults handle him.
I always do follow what my mother have told me. Every mother knows best for their children...
p/s: Do I know you? :D
